This time last year...

One of the things I love about blogging is that I have a ready-made photo diary to dip in and out of. It's lovely to be able to click on my archive tab scroll down to last year's date and have a look at what I was doing this time last year, or how the house/garden/cats looked. It was definitely really handy to have during the "dark days of building work" to be able to remind myself how far we had come from that hole in the ground!

Last May I discovered the delights of the Sally Lunn teashop in Bath and finally visited the famous Roman baths as well as stopping off at one of Chloe Antique's wonderful open house sales.
Later on in the month I had decided I wanted to paint something, but couldn't quite decide what - little did I know a year later I would be repainting the entire room!

Now that we've painted the dining room in a lighter shade, I'm not so sure about painting the dresser anymore. I think I'll live with it for a while and see how I feel about it later. I was also considering painting the wooden fireplace surround in the dining room as I was worried about the space looking a little "woody". But during the room re-paint I painted the inside of the cavity of the (non-working) fireplace and that does seem to have lightened that area. I'm still thinking about either re-tiling or maybe painting the dark red tiles - but that's a project for another day!

I also realised that I forgot to show you what we did with some of the left-over tiles from the garden room bathroom. We have a small ornamental fireplace in our main bedroom, the original fireplace had been taken out years ago and unfortunately the hearthstone had been removed too. Originally, I had a pile of locally collected pine cones in the grate but when I saw the left over tiles I asked our builder to cut them to size to fit in the bedroom fireplace. I'm really pleased with the result.

I'm still deep in clear out mode so will be adding a few more vintage items to eBay this evening, please feel free to have a look if you're interested and good luck if you decide to bid!

  1. May I say your dining room is lovely and the dresser is that beautiful soft colour that doesn't need painting! I like the clever use of your spare tiles,I bet you're glad that all the work is finally finished on your pretty garden room! I did enjoy following the progress.
