September

September seems to have crept up on me rather stealthily, and I can't help looking forward to the change in the seasons. Already it has started getting slightly cooler in the mornings and evenings and I have noticed a slight touch of copper when the trees are in the sunlight. I do so like this time when summer has started to wind down but autumn has not yet begun, the sun has a beautiful golden-ness and I find the crisper mornings and evenings refreshing. One of my favourite flowers pops out in various places in the garden at at late August and early September, the Japanese Anemone fittingly called Queen Charlotte! It's quite unassuming and not like the bold and brassy dahlias that I walk past on my way to work but I love the pink hue it brings to the garden as everything else is starting to settle down.

I made sure that I got my deckchair out into the garden, I love having it near the end where the tree is so that I can look up into it's green boughs, the sound of the wind gently sifting through the leaves must be one of my favourite sounds (I blame it on watching too much of Merchant & Ivory's production of Howard's End!)

I also took the plunge and painted my garden furniture, I do like a bit of rust but there was starting to be more rust than chair and I noticed that people were worried about sitting on them with light coloured trousers. The whole job was a much bigger undertaking than I have initially expected, let's just say that after I have done the second coat this weekend it won't be having a touch up for a long, long time! I went with Garden from the Little Greene Paint Co. I'm hoping that it will go slightly darker after the second shade. I really like the quality and pigmentation of these paints and I couldn't resist a colour that was described as being the essence of midsummer!

The table gets the seal of approval from Holly although it takes a bit more to impress Ivy!
Walking home from work work today I noticed the first fallen leaves beneath my feet and made a mental promise to myself to make the most of these last golden days before autumn is fully upon us!

  1. Your garden looks so peaceful. I love your kitties. Mine would be so envious as they're not allowed outside!
