Sussex Brocante

Last Saturday I headed down the M25 to West Sussex to visit the lovely Sussex Brocante (arranged by Lucy of Love Lane Vintage) in the pretty village of Wisborough Green. I was hoping for the perfect summer's day but unfortunately it was rather overcast and a little breezy but it did not dampen anyone's spirits. The fair was well attended and that stalwart British resilience to the often inclement summer weather was definitely out in force!
It got very crowded incredibly quickly in the village hall but I was able to take some photos of the stands outside, I really loved the way Laura from Wild Willow has put her display together.

It was incredibly easy to take beautiful photos with everything so perfectly arranged. I could have bought her whole flower display, with the quintessential selection of cottage garden blooms looking delicious against the stone walls of the village hall.

I've only ever grown the light blue variety of Nigella in my garden but after seeing Laura's bucket of the white and pink flowers I have put these seeds at the top of my garden wish list for next year (I think it is too late to grow them from seed now?)

Afterwards we had a wander round the village of Wisborough Green and I took a few sneaky photos of some of the cottages and pretty front gardens (I hope the owners' don't mind me posting them here!)

I loved the small tree in the left-hand side photo above - does anyone know what it is? I don't think it was a bay tree - could it be a very small fruit tree of some description?
The foxgloves were superb in the garden on the right, it really was my perfect idea of an English cottage garden.

It was so nice walking along the lane to the village hall past these beautiful gardens. The flowers on display were so varied and pretty. If you ever find yourself in West Sussex I would definitely recommend heading over to the Sussex Brocante and having a stroll around Wisborough Green - it really is the perfect setting for a vintage fair.

  1. What gorgeous pictures I'm pretty sure that tree is a bay tree as I have one that looks identical in both the trunk pattern and leaves. The nigella and peonies are beautiful - I must try and grown some too next year.
