Rosehip in the country

My fear of driving seems to have been thoroughly cured as only a couple of weeks after my Warminster/Chipping Sodbury escapade I found myself back behind the wheel heading over to Long Melford in Suffolk une seule! This time the lure at the end of the long drive was a visit to the Rosehip Barn near Thorpe Morieux and the Rosehip shop in Long Melford.
I arrived at the barn not long after the opening time and after shakily exiting my car, was greeted by Simon with the offer of a lovely hot cup of coffee or tea and a delicious almond bun-like confection. That almost made the trip worth it alone, but to enjoy it all in a vintage, rustic French country barn with wood burner was the icing on the cake (or in this case bun!)

Simon sat down and had a cup of tea with me and it was lovely to sip hot tea from pretty vintage tea cups and have a nice chat after the long drive. Although I'm ashamed to admit that I wolfed down my bun (scrummy though it was) in a rather un-lady like manner as I was itching to have a look round! From every angle there was something to catch the eye...

After several purchases I headed off to the Rosehip shop a mere 10 minute drive away in Long Melford. Which was also beautifully presented, Simon's lovely daughter was holding the fort and I had a really enjoyable talk with her about various vintage shops, fairs and books. She was even kind enough to write me a little list of places and things I might like!

After a couple more purchases (more about these in another post!) I decided to head home - but I definitely hope to be visiting the Rosehip Barn and shop again in the New Year!

  2. Sorry, I had to delete my first comment, stupid spell check!
What I wanted to say was, when we lived in Lavenham, just down the road, we used to go over to Long Melford to shop in the cute shops there. Oh, how I miss Suffolk!

  8. How I envy you living in the UK and having these fabulous shops. I have visited England twice and would love to just go from shop to shop seeing all the vintage wares. Am visiting from NZ again in 2013, so must get to visit some of them. Enjoying your blog from a long way away!
