We were spurred into action this weekend by a prospective dinner party on Saturday and the thought of having to ask our guests to weave around the pine corner cabinet that we had artfully placed in the middle of the sitting room floor. My husband dutifully trooped out to the the shed to collect the required tools (in the rain!) and made a very professional job (despite our cottage's old wonky walls) and I generally hindered proceedings by not being able to make up my mind as to how high it should be on the wall! But we got there in the end.

It was a bit of an impulse purchase from Country House Interiors in Castle Douglas (this is a gorgeous antique shop in a small town near my parent's house in Kirkcudbright and is definitely worth a visit if you are ever in the area) but neither of us could resist. Now I just need to figure out what I'm going to display in it!
I've also decided that the red tartan shade on the brass lamp does not go with the rest of the room so I either need to make a new lampshade or keep an eye out for one that will work.

This linen and eiderdown fabric cushion also came back down the road with us, just now it's on the French stripey chair in our sitting room but I'm not sure if that's the right place for it so it may migrate around the cottage for a while until it finds the right space.

Despite last minute DIY, our dinner party was a success. I made Griddled Pesto chicken with a lemony lentil and green bean salad (which didn't survive dinner to be photographed) and Onion and Rosemary Easy Soda Foccacia bread of which there is still some left;

followed by Vanilla chocolate layer cake;

and Ivy remained horizontal for the whole evening so I think I can say that a good time was had by all!

  7. Love your cupboard and cushion, I know how you feel I still have lights to put up!! Thank you also for giving me The Versatile Blogger Award, I am terrible about lists so haven't done one yet! when people write their lists I am always agreeing with everything, so my list would be a combination of every one else's, especially yours about Radio 4 and plays! Have a lovely week
    Charlotte.

  8. I love that little corner cabinet you got. I've been following your blog for a while and I love your cottage. I'm looking for a corner cabinet myself for a little awkward spot I have in the dining-room, but have been unlucky so far...
