Some progress
After what seemed like an age where we were just digging a very large hole in the garden, the garden room is now starting to take shape. We had the concrete piped in through the sitting room and dining room from a huge cement mixing lorry in the street at the beginning of this week.
After leaving the concrete to dry the builders were back laying the first rows of engineering bricks and damp proof membrane. Then a layer of polystyrene and more concrete for the floor!
Our dining room and sitting room have become storage areas for all of the bits and pieces that we ordered for our project. The sink, shower cubicle, tiles, windows, door knobs, locks and latches! I'm especially pleased with the windows, they are wooden cottage style casement windows with lovely wrough iron monkey tail window catches.
The paint indecision continues with the sitting room and dining room walls becoming mosaics of various shades of off-white. (Left to right; Hollyhock, Stock, Starling's Egg, Linen Wash and China Clay if anyone's interested!) At least I don't have to make a decision on this for a while!
I'm looking forward to what this week will bring - hopefully we'll be able to finish the walls, maybe even start on the roof?

Thank you for sharing the progress with us. I've often thought about adding a room to our home, so it's interesting to see the steps involved. Love the windows!

This is so exciting, despite having to live in a muddle for a while! Looking forward to seeing more.
ReplyDeleteIts going to be wonderful! xx
ReplyDeleteIt is going to look magnificent! Your choices are lovely. Are you also painting the inside of your cottage?
ReplyDeleteHi Ann,
DeleteYes, just the sitting room and dining room as we've had to take all of the soil and clay that we dug out for the foundations through these rooms as well as all the building materials due to our cottage being terraced. It's looking pretty grotty in those two rooms just now!

ReplyDeleteYou are coming out of the ground now Charlotte.... Exciting to see it grow.
ReplyDeleteSo much money is hidden with foundations, but it has to be right....
