Still raining

Light mizzly rain floating in drifts on the wind, large teardrop splatters of rain hitting the window panes and sploshing into the soil. Rain in the country is refreshing and green; sheltering under the large green umbrella of an old oak tree in the country having been caught unawares by an English downpour and listening to the dappling of the rain bouncing off the leaves is quite nice.
Struggling home against the crowds, and splashing through grey, greasy puddles in the middle of London is not. Rain in London always feels rather grimy and stagnant. Although after reading about the possibility of standpipes in London if the "drought" continues I will be actively doing a rain dance from now on!
At least I have my small corner of greenery to escape to, which I have been doing frequently in between the showers. All the rain has really spurred the garden on and it seems to now be raring to go for spring.

It's still very much a work in progress, but I'm enjoying seeing all the flowers of the season pop up; primroses, cowslips, forget-me-nots, yellow welsh poppies along with the promises of things to come; the climbing hydrangea; penstemon and monkshood. Plus plenty of space for all my little seedlings of cosmos, lupins, bishops flower and euphorbias.

In the in-between times when all gardening activities were rained off I made a garlic and asparagus quiche with wholemeal pastry. It's a little tradition of mine to make this every time British asparagus comes into season.
Whereas Holly and Ivy have been pushing their chair-lounging endurance to the limit in the hope of being picked to represent team GB in the highly regarded snooze marathon portion of the Olympics....

    1. It's terrible, the first thing I always do when it rains is complain - totally forgetting how necessary rain is for my garden! Here's the recipe for the quiche: http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/wordofmouth/2010/may/13/allegra-mcevedy-clickalong-quiche
