Deck chair

Last week I purchased an old vintage deck chair from eBay and ever since it has arrived the past few days have been a wash out! So just now I have a lovely old deck chair in my sitting room (I'm not ready to relegate it to our rather spidery garden shed just yet!) I have tested it several times, the pale taupe and pink striped original fabric is still strong and it is rather comfy. I have played around with the different back rest heights and found the optimum one for me. Now all I need is the weather to use it in!

I find that this always happens with me; it happened earlier last month when I bought a summer dress and consequentially we were immersed under a rain cloud for almost two weeks!
I had gotten used to the summer style of living with windows and doors flung open, allowing frequently wandering outside to be warmed by the sun.
Today the doors are closed, although the windows are still open and the cats have swapped flower bed lounging for sofa and armchair dreaming.

I too have joined them, reading magazines and catching up on ironing which was deemed much too hot a job to do when we had the tropical weather earlier this week. Occasionally I get the sofa all to myself and when this happens I always find myself looking at the sitting room and thinking how different a room can look from another angle. So here is my view from the sofa (and most probably the rest of today!)

  1. I'd keep it where it is and just stare at it - it's gorgeous! I'm still seething at a similar one that I saw outside a charity shop recently for the princely sum of £8 - practicality got the better of me and I couldn't think how I would get it home and of course the next day it had gone - grrrrrrr! Still muggy up here in Staffordshire in spite of the huge amount of rain we had last night - we need a good storm ( and then some more lovely sunshine!) Jane x

  3. I live to sit in different chairs in a room when I am decorating to see what I have missed if I just stand at the door and look in.

It is the end of July and the coast of California is chilly. My husband just got up to put on long pants - NO we want sun on the beach!

  5. What a coincidence! Just this week I too have been eyeing deckchairs on eBay, what a lucky find! It's definitely too beautiful to be put in a shed just yet, enjoy looking at this vintage beauty! I must say, that chair looks so comfortable no wonder the cats don't want to move!

  6. I have been looking at new deckchairs but they are just not the same. Most have plastic bits to adjust the height, completely a rubbish design. So now I too will be looking on E Bay. Love your chair, what a find. Shame about the weather, but I'm glad it's cooled down. I was finding it hard to get anything done.

  10. Your deck chair is gorgeous and your home. I realised as I read your post that I haven't actually sat in my living room for about two weeks! All I've done is clean and tidy it after the whirlwind kids have been in there! Sunshine is on its way - I think they are promising Thursday. xx

  12. Old fashioned deck chairs must be the latest must-have, after wine and apple crates for storage ... a neighbour has recently bought one and intends creating a little corner for reading in her small garden, with arbour under which will go her 'new' old deck chair!

  13. Hello, just found your blog and so excited about following along! I love seeing how people in the UK and the rest of Europe live. I thought the deck chair belonged there when I first saw it. It somehow blends right in. And I love your cat sleeping on the sofa. It invokes a feeling of chill and coziness in the air! I love those kinds of days. Have a great weekend!
