Wintery

On Saturday, my sister-in-law and I bundled ourselves into the car, turned the heating up high and headed out on an expedition! Our mission was to visit Chloe Antiques Open house sale in Warminster and then head over to Chipping Sodbury for the Vintage and Handmade Fair. It was quite an ambitious undertaking with over 4 and a half hours driving ahead of me. But I was knew that I needed to build up my driving experience and the potential antique and vintage havens at the end of each long drive was definitilty more than enough to get me behind the wheel.
Once we got out of London it was a lovely drive down to Warminster with a beautiful hoar frost decorating the verges; as we headed onto the Salisbury Plain the mist came down and it really was quite magical.
We also drove past Stonehenge which even at 8:45 in the morning had a fair few visitors, but I was a little disappointed by the proximity of the road to such an important heritage site.

Finally we arrived at Warminister and after being incredibly impressed by the parking charges (30p for an hour!) we donned our coats and scarfs and quick-marched over to Chloe's house. It was beautifully presented and almost everything was for sale! We were greeted at the door by Chloe, given steaming mugs of tea and offered a mouthwatering selection of cakes.

I spotted this pretty little plate and after some quick deliberation decided that it had to come home with me. It now has pride of place on our sitting room shelves which are slowly starting to fill up! There were some really lovely other bits and pieces but I was rather worried about blowing all my budget there so off we headed to Chipping Sodbury.

It was absolutely packed and after managing to squeeze into the last space in the car park we headed to the Village Hall which was equally packed! Once we were in there were lots of stalls to look at but one of the first ones we passed immediately caught my eye and I couldn't resist purchasing another couple of Christmas decorations:

After lunch we set off home again, tired but happy and very determined to come back and visit Wiltshire and Gloustershire again some day.

  3. I love the decorations you found, Charlotte. It's so nice to find vintage ones, and to collect them year on year. They'll look great against natural foliage or on the tree.

  4. Wow, that first photo is awesome - Christmassy and wintery and sooooo atmospheric. Just makes me want to get bundled up in bed with thick socks and a woolly hat with the heating blasting out!!!
