It's a rainy afternoon here in London and I have been busy with my quilt which has now grown to such a size that I find it difficult to take a photo of all of it. I still think it needs a couple more rows around each edge before it's the right size, and I am slightly dreading its completion as then the actual quiliting will take place - most likely all by hand! Not sure if those splashes of red in the corner patches were a good idea but 'tis done now!
Inspired by Niki's post about scrapbooking her old magazines, I sat down over the weekend with a stack of rather dog-eared issues and some sharp scissors. (Though not before I had recovered my actual scrapbook!)
Here are some of the results...
Suffice to say there has been alot of paper, fabric and thread to keep out of the way of one particular individual...
Let me know what you think of my new blog design - is it too white? I've played around with it so much I'm not sure anymore!
Me gusta tu colcha las telas son de tonos suaves.
ReplyDeleteHi Charlotte, I love the work you have done on your quilt and the splashes of red are perfect. It is going to look so beautiful when you hand quilt it. I always hand quilt, just simple small stitches, not always perfect but that is the charm of a hand made quilt. Your blog looks great! Ann
ReplyDeleteHello Charlotte
ReplyDeleteYour quilt will be magnificent. I really love the flower in the centre.

Hi Sara, Ann and Anna,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments! I'm glad you like the quilt so far - I'm a bit of a perfectionist and always seem to find faults in the things I make!
Charlotte
Your quilt is lovely, it looks very vintage and I wouldnt worry about the red corners they look fine. You did very well for your first quilt.
ReplyDeleteIt would be fabulous if you could now hand quilt it, have you thought about that at all?
I think the scrapbook is a good one, I have always kept cuttings and pics, so that every time we start another house, I have what I call my "source book" of ideas.
I love that cheeky monkey peeping out. We have 5 of them and they never fail to amuse us each and every day.
ReplyDeleteKeep going with that quilt, it will look fab when finished.
I have a give away on at the moment if you are interested.

I think the quilt looks really good, have you used old pieces of textiles to make it ?
ReplyDeleteThe header is charming.
Love Diane. x
Hi Kath, Briony and Diane,
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting! Glad to hear the red corners are not as bad as I thought! I will be hand quilting it once I have finished adding a few more rows.
Yes, Holly is very cheeky - I feel like I need eyes in the back of my head to prevent her from mischief-making!
I have tried to use only Victorian fabrics but a few later ones have slipped in due to the scarcity of Victorian fabrics.

What a pretty quilt. And the restrained feel of the blog background matches it, I think!
ReplyDeleteI've been working on a cuttings book too - isn't it fun? I've found I have to avoid putting in any text, as my eye is just too drawn to words and I don't concentrate properly on the pictures.
The quilt looks great (I think the red corners are just right), but that kitty picture is even better!!!
ReplyDeleteThe quilt is pretty and vintage looking. I am a quilter and wish you great pleasure with the quilting process. It is such a relaxing and enjoyable process even though I am impatient and want to see it done when I start. I am hand quilting a sampler quilt now.
ReplyDeleteHugs from Holland ~

Hello Charlotte,
ReplyDeleteYour quilt looks absolutely wonderful to me. Using vintage Victorian fabric has given it such a beautiful look and so perfect for your pretty cottage.
Your plant cutting seems very familiar to me, I think I have that one on my garden cuttings board.
Lovely photo of Holly looking cheeky but ever so cute!
