All Change

No lovely trips to vintage fairs or pretty villages this weekend. Instead I've been up to my elbows in bubble wrap and cardboard boxes. Building work is due to start on the garden room this Friday so we've decided to put our sitting room and dining room into storage in order to allow the builders easy access. Unfortunately we do not have separate side access to the garden, so everything will have to be taken through the house.

Although it's a bit of a pain to be covering everything in layers of tissue paper and bubble wrap, I've quite enjoyed the opportunity to reassess everything and think about de-cluttering and paring back. I've already accumulated a box of items that I would like to sell at some point; I've been collecting items before we actually had a home and I do find my tastes have changed slightly during the process. I'm veering away from chintz and busy patterns and find I'm drawn to calmer, less busy and cluttered styles.

I'm both excited and worried about the start of work on the garden room. I'm hoping my garden won't suffer too much during the work; a trench does have to be dug on one side of the garden, near the fence as we want to bury the electric and telephone lines, plus we also have to ensure the the saniflow pipes are dug in quite deep (a small W.C/shower room is also included in our plans for the garden room).

Hopefully, I will be posting photos of the work as it progresses!

  1. Good luck with your building work Charlotte. I also find myself drawn to a more simpler decorating style now. We move into our new 'downsize' cottage in 4 weeks!!! You are an inspiration with how you have decorated your cottage.

  4. I remember when we had our kitchen renovated and we were in boxes for a week. It seemend like forever, but it sure was worth it in the end. Your cottage is so beautiful Charlotte - I can't wait to see the renovations!

  6. I am so excited to see the finished result. I am finding myself feeling the same way as you and many others if other blogs are read. I have just done the back bedroom for us to move into and it is so different to the front where we are now. There will be a serious decluttering of the front bedroom now. We do vintage fairs so our stall will be full of new 'old' stuff in April!

  7. Exciting times ahead... You have to break a few eggs to make an omelet... My garden took a beating during hurricane Sandy and the subsequent rebuild, but what remained grow back with even more vigour and the garden appeared less cluttered. Good luck (I can't wait to see the end result). Lx
